Celebration Dinner For Helping Kids Stay in Sports

On Dec. 11, join News 12 Sports anchor Jamie Stuart as he hosts a very special reception to say “thank you” to the volunteers and directors of the Children’s Sports Connection, which has fulfilled the dreams of so many children through the years. The event will be held at Carlyle on the Green in Farmingdale from 6 p.m.- 8:30 p.m., and will feature a holiday dinner, music with special performances by Sal Manzo and a youth choir, raffles and a silent auction. Trees of Love Lighting Ceremony

The Last Hope Animal Rescue continues a holiday tradition it began in 1998 with the Trees of Love Christmas tree ligting ceremony on Dec. 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Last Hope Adoption Center, 3300 Beltagh Ave. in Wantagh. Prior to the lighting of two decorated trees, participants can purchase ribbons for $10 each. Gold ribbons honor living pets and red ribbons memoralize late pets. Pets’ names are written on the ribbons and will be placed on the trees. A third tree is decorated in green ribbons only, but these are to remember the countless discarded pets throughout the country euthanized each year at overcrowded shelters. Supporters can also purchase these symbolic ribbons. All “Trees of Love” proceeds benefit Last Hope’s rescued dogs and cats plus our community outreach programs such as Fix-A-Feral. Festival of Lights

An elegant evening of dining and dancing at the Friedberg JCC’s Festival of Lights. The benefit will be held will honor individuals for their generous contributions to the community including Janie, Charlie, Alyssa & Jacob Innamorato of Syosset. Raffle prizes and auction items. Tickets are $125 per person for adults; $85 for high school students. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Friedberg JCC and Sunrise Day Camp. The Rainforest Butterflies

The Atria in Plainview, 12 Washington Ave., presents guest lecturer Steve Fratello as he lectures on the beauty and variety of rainforest butterflies. Fratello, an explorer and naturalist, will dazzle attendees with his spectacular collection of rainforest butterflies and moths, many of which were collected by Fratello during numerous expeditions. The difference between butterflies and moths, rainforest climate and geography and other biological topics will be discussed. This program will awe, delight and educate you. Children welcome. Visitors to the Atria in Plainview, 12 Washington Ave., will delight in the vocal stylings of Sean Mahoney, who will perform Dec. 28 at 3 p.m. He is a professional singer with 35 years of performances including live shows/groups, opera, musical theater, and back up singer for Paul Anka, Barry Manilow, Neil Sedaka, and Lou Rawls. Miscarriage Support Group

A safe, confidential, supportive environment in which to talk about what you have been through, your reactions and feelings, and how to move forward. You are not alone! Free Veterinary Lectures

Once a month through December, Long Island Cat Fanciers sponsors free lectures given by top local veterinarians on topics relevant to dog and cat owners. All members of the public are welcome to. Clutterers Anonymous (CLA)

A 12-step self-help group, offers help and support to those who have clutter problems in their homes or workplace. Meets at the following locations: Thursdays, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 265 Asbury Ave, Westbury first and third Friday, 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the School of the Community Reformed Church, 90 Plandome Rd, Manhasset. Plainview Lions Club Meeting

Serving the Plainview-Old Bethpage and Bethpage communities since 1957, the Lions Club holds dinner meetings on the second Wednesday of every month through July. The Lions Club strives to make a difference in local communities and encourages residents to come in and voice thier concerns.
