Crew Finishes Fall Season

awardThe Manhasset High School Crew Team was honored to have a distinguished guest attend its Fall Season Awards Dinner at North Hills Country Club on Friday, Nov. 22.

In addition to the various awards presented by the team’s coaches, newly elected Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Manhasset High School Athletic Director Jim Amen attended the ceremony.

“We are honored to have Ms. Bosworth take the time out of her busy schedule to honor our team. We are very grateful for her ongoing support of our program,” said Friends of Manhasset Crew (FOMC) President Suzanne Mills, in congratulating the athletes and coaches. “We are further grateful for Mr. Amen’s support of our team during his first season as Athletic Director of Manhasset High School.”

The crew team competed in the following six regattas during the fall season: Tail of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs, Textile River Regatta in Lowell, Mass, Head of the Housatonic Regatta in Shelton, Conn., Head of the Charles in Boston, Mass., Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs, and the Long Island Frostbite Regatta in Oyster Bay.

This fall’s squad was comprised of 87 athletes, girls and boys, all Manhasset High School students, who participate in four squads: varsity girls, varsity boys, novice girls and novice boys.

Two new coaches joined the team, Mike Boone and Chris Massey, rounded out the coaching staff of Head Coach Hugo Guardado Henriquez, Chris Mare and Tara Marsigliano.

Many of the team’s athletes go on to row and cox at the collegiate level, further representing Manhasset. Manhasset High School graduates have, are, or will be rowing and coxing at Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, Franklin & Marshall, George Washington, Harvard, McGill, Bucknell, Fairfield, Colgate, Marist, UCLA, Stanford and Boston College.
