For anyone dreaming of a white New Year, you might just get it. While we didn’t see much, if any, snow on New Year’s Eve, that could soon change.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Roslyn area and the rest of Long Island for Thursday evening through Friday afternoon.
Accumulations of 5 to 9 inches are possible, according to the NWS, beginning Thursday, Jan. 2 at 6 p.m. through Friday, Jan. 3 at 1 p.m.
The storm has the potential to bring heavy snow and near-blizzard conditions along the coast.
Dangerously cold wind chills are also expected during this time with temperatures dropping into the lower teens Thursday night through Friday afternoon and wind chills of 5 to 10 below zero.
There is a chance of light snow late Wednesday evening, mainly after midnight with a possible accumulation of less than a half inch.
On Thursday, snow is likely after 3 p.m. with new accumulation of about an inch possible. Snow is expected to worsen Thursday night when wind chill values fall as low as zero with new accumulation of 3 to 7 inches of snow.
On Friday, snow is expected to stop before 11 a.m. with a slight chance of snow through 1 p.m.
Things clear up Friday night with a low temperature of 7 degrees and on Saturday the sun comes out raising temperatures to around 24 degrees.
