The Long Island Rail Road has implemented a weekend schedule with off-peak fare for Friday commuters, and the Long Island Expressway reopened at 8 a.m. this morning, after a winter storm dropped 6 to 10 inches of snow across Long Island Thursday night.

A blizzard warning remains in effect through 1 p.m. Friday with gusty winds causing white-out conditions and dangerously cold wind chills of 5 to 10 below zero.

Nassau County’s Non-Emergency Hotline is active. Residents with non-life threatening emergencies should dial 1-888-684-4274 for assistance throughout the duration of the storm. All those with life threatening emergencies should call 911.

Things should clear up Friday night, according to the National Weather Service,  with a low temperature of 3 degrees and wind chill values as low as -7. On Saturday the sun comes out raising temperatures to around 27 degrees.
