Hicksville United Methodist Church is holding a blood drive on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information or to make a reservation contact Ginny at 931-0157.

7 in Heaven Singles Event

There will be a 7 In Heaven Singles Event at Mio Posto Italian Restaurant, 600 W. Old Country Rd. in Hicksville, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Ten experts will give advice and presentations, free samples, prizes and appetizers. The cost is $15. Family Fun Day

The Broadway Mall will be holding a family fun day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come to Center Court to enjoy free entertainment for kids.

Blood Drive

Broadway Mall will be hosting a blood drive in parternship with Long Island Blood Services. Come to the IKEA Wing from 10:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. to donate blood and help save a life.

Sands Casino Trip

The Catholic Daughters of the America’s #869 will be hosting a bus trip to the Sands Casino in Pennsylvania. The cost is $42 per person. Give back is $30 slot pay and $5 food voucher. The bus leaves at 9 a.m. sharp, please arrive at Cantiague Park, near the miniature golf course at 8:30 a.m. We will be returning at approximately 8:30 p.m. For reservations, call Barbara at 516-935-5576. The first to pay is the first on the bus. All profit will benefit our charities and scholarship fund.

Defensive Driving

Registration for AARP & Defensive Driving classes is ongoing at the Reference Desk. Payment must be made at time of registration. Call or stop by the Reference Department for further information or to check on class availability. Fee: $27. Check or money order made payable to Empire Safety Council. Class limit: 40. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Adam Sandler and Kevin James star in the comedy, Grown Ups 2. PG-13. 101 minutes. 1:30 p.m.

Pay Less Income Tax Lecture

Barry Lisak, IRS enrolled agent, will present a seminar to help reduce one’s Federal and NYS taxes. All new 2013 tax laws will be highlighted. Topics will include education, retirement, home ownership, charitable, medical, investment, employee and miscellaneous deductions. A free booklet will be distributed to all attendees. No registration required. 1 to 3 p.m.

Tiny Tots Storytime

Enjoy twenty minutes of age appropriate songs and stories for young children.For ages two and three with caregiver. Session dates are Jan. 14 and 28 at 11 a.m. Limited spots available.

Valentine’s Day Mini Donuts

Teenagers are invited to join Katherine Giouvalakis to make Valentines Day Mini Donuts from scratch. Participants will follow a recipe, and measure and mix the ingredients. We will make our donuts on a donut maker and then decorate them. Each teen will make three donuts and bring them home in a bakery box. Limited spots available. At 7:15 p.m.

American Heiresses, English Titles

In the mid to late 1800s, Anglomania swept across America. Newly rich industrialists scrambled for social acceptance and wealthy American daughters married into English aristocratic households. Our local Royal lecturer, Linda Watkin, will speak on this phenomenon, the marriages and show a brief film. No registration required. 2 p.m.

The Board Meeting will be held at the Administration Building located at 120 Second Street. 7 p.m.

Monkey, Monkey Music Family Show

 Get ready to play air guitar, jump high, count the odds, pop the bubbles, stroll in the garden and do the “macaroni” with Monkey Monkey Music. Meredith LeVande’s videos air on PBS stations -Kids 13 and NJTV- in between favorite shows like Curious George and Sesame Street and now you can participate in this high energy, fun, interactive show. Registration is ongoing. 2 p.m.

Estampas Folkloricas Peru

Estampas Folkloricas Peru, a cultural organization who pioneers spreading Peruvian folklore in the United States, will present a concert showcasing traditional dances from different regions of Peru. The performance includes beautiful and colorful costumes from different and diverse regions of Peru. No registration required. 2 p.m.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the library will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the CRC will be open from 1 to 5 p.m.

AARP Defensive Driving

Registration for AARP and Defensive Driving classes is ongoing at the Reference Desk. $20 fee for regular members, $25 for non-members. Please make your check or money order payable to AARP. Class limit: 33 From 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

AARP Tax Aide Registration

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is a volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation service available to low and middle income taxpayers (about $60,000 or less) with special focus on seniors. Tax preparation is by appointment only. Appointments will be given at the following time increments: 1:15 p.m.; 2:15 p.m.; 3:15 p.m.; and 4:15p.m. every Tuesday from Feb. 4 to April 15. Space is limited.  Photo identification is required. Please bring all necessary forms, 1099s, W2 statements and last year’s tax return to your appointment. Registration starts January 21 at 9:30 a.m.
