Roslyn High School students won Best in Category awards for 3 of 6 categories in the Long Island High School Psychology Fair that took place on Thursday, Jan. 9.

Rachel Mintz and Tiffany Sun won the Social Psychology category with their work perceptions of working and stay-at-home moms and dads. Jessica Futoran and Ludia Ock earned first place in the Cognitive Psychology category with their study on risk perceptions, and Jerry Li was victorious in one of the Interdisciplinary categories with his study on power posing.

The 36 competitors in the psychology fair were chosen from approximately twice that number of entries. Project descriptions were blind reviewed by three raters, and the authors of the 36 highest scoring descriptions invited to participate in the fair. Other Roslyn High School participants were Cassandra Chan, Olivia Kung, and Barry Yang.

The fair is currently in its sixth year. It is hosted by Roslyn High School, where it is run by Dr. Allyson Weseley, Roslyn’s coordinator of Secondary Research, with help from Steven Sullivan from Lawrence High School and Michelle Sorise from Great Neck South High School. Any community members interested in judging in future years’ fairs can contact Dr. Weseley at LIPsychFair@aol.com.
