With the 2014 Winter Olympics only one week away, three Syosset students joined a cast of former Olympians and Broadway singers for the annual Sing & Skate Against Breast Cancer on Jan. 18.
Lindsay and Lilli Lee, who are students at Village Elementary School, and Emily Im, a student at Baylis Elementary School, performed at the outdoor ice rink at Bryant Park’s Bank of America Winter Village to raise funds in the fight against breast cancer.
US Olympian Kimmie Meissner took to the ice along with world medalist and former national champion Nicole Bobek.
Joining them was the brother and sister ice-dancing team of Sinead and John Kerr, who competed for Great Britain at the 2010 Winter Olympics and appeared in a skating scene on the hit TV show Glee.
Singers Marieann Meringolo and Broadway’s N’Kenge performed live while local aspiring athletes skated, including the Lee sisters and Im.
“I’m so proud of all of the performers and their commitment to community facilities like Winter Village,” said JoJo Starbuck, two-time US Figure Skating Olympian, three-time US national pairs champion, and event emcee. “It helps the local kids learn how to give back, and they really look up to the Olympic skaters and the singers who are very giving of their time.”
