Bank Robbers Busted

A recent string of robberies had Nassau and Suffolk county police working together to catch the culprits. And now they’ve succeeded, say authorities.

According to detectives, at approximately 5:51 p.m. on Jan. 28, 18-year-old Adam Baron of Melville entered the Chase Bank on Main Street in Farmingdale and handed the teller a demand note. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, Baron fled the bank.

Five employees and five customers, none of whom were injured, were present during the time of the robbery and identified the perpetrator. The eyewitnesses informed police that the suspect was  6 foot 2 inches tall, wearing dark clothing, a mask covering his face and gloves. Police could not identify if the assailant was armed, as of press time.

The next day, Nassau County investigators, working in conjunction with the Suffolk County Pattern Crimes Unit, arrested Baron and his alleged accomplice, Jamie Ramirez, in the parking lot of the Avalon Apartments complex, where they live.

Baron has been charged in connection with five other bank robberies that occurred in Westbury, Rockville Centre, Plainview and Merrick. Although Ramirez, 25, was not apprehended in connection with the robberies in Rockville Centre and Farmingdale, he was charged in connection with the robberies in Plainview and Merrick. He was also apprehended for a bank robbery in North Bellmore on Jan. 17.

Both men were arraigned at the first district court in Hempstead on Jan. 30. Baron has been charged with five counts of robbery in the second degree and one count of attempted robbery. Ramirez has been charged with two counts of robbery in the second degree, third degree, and attempted robbery.
