Peter Anthony Rizzo, Jr., age 93, of Weston, FL. passed away on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014.
A former resident of Sea Cliff and Glen Cove. A proud WWII veteran of the China-Burma- India campaign where he served as a communications specialist attached to the Flying Tigers, a volunteer group comprised of the Chinese and American Air Forces, the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps/ Past Commander of American Legion Post 336, Glenwood Landing, from 1964-1966; 64-year member of the Plumbers Local 200; volunteer at St. Francis Hospital and retired Town of Oyster Bay plumbing inspector.
He was preceded in death by his spouses, Rose Marie D’Alessio Rizzo and Marie Bencivenga Rizzo; his parents, Angelina and Peter Rizzo as well as six brothers and sisters. He is the beloved father of Roseann Staple and step-father of Charlene Bencivenga. Grandfather of Robyn (Kevin) Benson and Jason (Natalie) Staple. Great grandfather of Ryan Anthony Benson and Averi Rose Staple.
Peter is also survived by his sister-in-law Helen D’Alessio of Glen Head, many nieces, nephews, God-children and close family friends, Janice and Steven Scifo. Mass of Christan burial will be Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 in Florida. Interment will take place at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, North Lauderdale, FL with Military Honors. Arrangements by T. M.
