Ellen B. Loewy has been selected as the next Director of Special Services for the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central School District. She will fill the position vacated by Debra Kienke. Loewy comes with rich experience, currently serving as the Director of Pupil Personnel Services for the West Hempstead School District. Loewy has also worked for the Patchogue Medford School District and the New York City Department of Education.
Loewy attended Dowling College, where she earned a psychology degree in school psychology and her School District Administrator Certification. She also holds a masters in education from Queens College, CUNY.
Loewy lives in Levittown with her husband and one child. She enjoys cooking, entertaining, going to the theater and reading.
When asked what it was about Oyster Bay-East Norwich that made her want to work here, Loewy said, “During my research, I visited the OBEN website and was impressed by the book Wonder for a shared reading choice. I read the book and thought I would like to work in a place that was sensitive and caring to people with special needs.”
Although her appointment for the position was made at the Jan. 21 Board of Education meeting, Loewy stayed on at her current position in order to allow the West Hempstead School District to find her replacement. Loewy will begin working in Oyster Bay-East Norwich this month.
