New Hyde Park Memorial High School announced Wilmer Cruz and Kevin Fox as its students of the month.
Cruz is a student in the Read 180 program who has come a long way since the beginning of the year. He is always on task and participates consistently in class.
Cruz is a diligent worker who is relentless in trying to better himself as a learner and as a reader. When higher-level questions are asked, Wilmer is able to grasp the concepts easily.
While Cruz is successful when working independently, his ability to be a meaningful participant in group work helps to enhance the quality of the learning experience for his classmates. He is a natural leader among his peers, and often helps and teaches struggling students difficult concepts in the course of class activities.
Fox is being commended for his accomplishments in English. Through both his actions and his words, Fox has separated himself from the “average” student. His hard work and reliability make him someone that teachers can trust.
Fox’s most impressive quality is his readiness to participate even if he isn’t 100 percent sure he is correct.
