Holy Trinity Diocesan High School will honor Rev. Joseph Fitzgerald, a former chaplain at Holy Trinity who currently resides at St. Edward the Confessor parish in Syosset, at its Annual Principal’s Gala on April 10 at The Carltun at Eisenhower Park.
This event is the school’s annual major fundraiser and as part of this event, the school honors members of the Trinity family who “live our mission daily by: inspiring students/staff within the very walls of our school; carrying it with them to the world beyond Cherry Lane; and, perhaps most importantly, around their family dinner table.”
Fitzgerald will be the recipient of the “Holy Trinity Living Witness & Faith Award.” Father Joe is man of many talents and indeed, great faith. Among his many passions, he was a strong athlete in high school and in college. As the quarterback at Ithaca College, he won the 1991 Division III title. He is also an Olympic Handball player who played in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
“I was always open to whatever God called me to,” said Father Joe. “I felt I wanted to do something more with my life and I was feeling the pull to consider the priesthood.”
After his ordination to the priesthood in 2007, Fr. Joe was assigned to St. Killian’s in Farmingdale. Quickly becoming part of the fabric of the parish, he was called away two years later to be the Chaplain at Holy Trinity. In October of 2013, he was assigned to his new position as vocations director for the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
