The Hicksville School District will receive a total of $14.5 million in state education aid, according to the final state budget numbers.
“There is no question that we appreciate all of our legislators for their efforts on behalf of Long Island School districts in providing a state budget that will benefit our children,” said Superintendent Maureen Bright. “The additional aid will assist us in maintaining quality programs for our students, prevent cuts in staff and provide stability as we move our district forward.”
The final amount represents an additional $1,193,091 over what was originally in the Governor’s Executive Budget proposal and approximately $600,000 more in funding for Foundation Aid and Gap Elimination Restoration Aid.
“While this is far from the full restoration of the GEA for our district, it will be of great benefit to our students and school community,” said Bright.
The complete state aid allocation for Hicksville also includes additional anticipated funds for transportation, BOCES and high cost excess aid. This funding is expense driven and based on this year’s expenditures.
According to Bright, state aid represents approximately 11 percent of the district’s budget, given that they receive all the expense driven aid (which they usually do not).
The final budget presentation will be April 9 at 7:45 p.m. The Board of Education will adopt the budget April 23 at 8:30 p.m. in the Board Room of the Administration Building.
