A Floral Park resident and an eighth grader from the Brother Joseph C. Fox Latin School, Catherine Cherpelis won an award in the essay category of the annual Catholic Daughters of the Americas education contest sponsored by the Bishop Kellenberg Court located in North Merrick.
Cherpelis essay exemplified the contest’s themes of, “Jesus loves us. How do we spread that love?” or, “How do I promote peace in the world.” An awards ceremony was held at the Sacred Heart School in Merrick to reward the achievements of all the contest winners with monetary prizes and certificates from both The Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Assemblyman David McDonough.
