Farmingdale School District Transportation Supervisor Joe Williams and Director of Information Services Kathy Hart were honored at the 13th Annual SCOPE School District Awards Ceremony in Holbrook—where they were presented with awards for their service with the district’s SCOPE program.
The winning recipients have collectively served the district for more than 45 years.
“We are incredibly proud of, both, Joe and Kathy for their outstanding accomplishments and the distinct leadership they have brought to our district,” said Farmingdale School District Superintendent John Lorentz, who also serves as president on the SCOPE Board of Directors.
“Joe is devoted to student safety and helps transport more than 6,000 students to and from school every day,” the superintendent added, “while Kathy has played a vital role in providing accurate information that is essential for our programs.”
Joe Williams joined the Farmingdale School District in 2000 as the District’s transportation supervisor. He is responsible for transporting more than 6,000 students to and from their homes in a safe, timely and cost-efficient manner.
Williams plans the satellite mapping and routing of nearly 80 buses. To ensure student safety, he also makes sure that preventative maintenance inspections and the most up-to-date safety procedures are conducted and enforced on all district vehicles.
Williams is currently the elected president of the New York Association for Pupil Transportation (NYAPT) and serves on the NYAPT’s Board of Directors.
Kathy Hart was named as the District’s Management Information Services Director in 1979.
Hard is responsible for implementation and integration of all district-wide information systems pertaining to financial and student reporting, as well as incorporating the latest education reforms into existing school processes and procedures.
Hart implemented the District’s first wide-area network (WAN), its email system as well as its security systems—including the District’s photo identification, emergency calling and visitor management systems.
Hart additionally provides school principals and curriculum directors with the latest information pertaining to student data.
Ms. Hart serves as Farmingdale’s chief information officer for New York state reporting, while maintaining the latest student information repository system (SIRS), Boards of Cooperative Educational Service (BOCES) and local assessments.
The Farmingdale School District encourages its community members to become involved in the issues that affect their public schools, by communicating with district officials either in person at its regular board meetings or via email or letter.
