Third-graders at South Grove Elementary School in the Syosset Central School District had the opportunity to become experts in world culture for three specific countries – China, Italy and Kenya – during an enrichment project that spanned five sessions this spring.
The third-graders participated in a variety of hands-on activities that provided them with a better understanding of the three different cultures. Students selected one of 10 areas to focus on, including art, cuisine, fashion, folk tales, games, geography, holidays, recreation, symbols and travel. The project supports lessons learned in the New York State third-grade curriculum, emphasizing the need for students to comprehend and compare various cultures.
