Meet Author Frank Amoroso

The Plainview-Old Bethpage Library invites the community to meet author Frank Amoroso, who will discuss his new book Behind Every Great Fortune. A riveting historical novel about Otto Hermann Kahn, who called Oheka Castle his home and whose persona inspired the popular board game Monopoly. The event is at 7:30 in the library’s auditorium. Copies of Amoroso’s book will be for sale through the Friends of the Library.

Photography Competitions

This all day events brings superb photographers to the Plainview Library for an all-day event of judging and competition. The Photographic Federation of Long Island meets regularly at the library, and this competition is the result of months of lens excellence. The competition begins at 7 p.m.

Author’s Brunch Series

The Mid-Island Y JCC, 45 Manetto Hill Rd., presents its Author’s Brunch Series noon to 2 p.m. featuring The Power of Citizenship: Why John F. Kennedy Matters To A New Generation, by Scott D. Reich. A lawyer by training, Reich breathes new meaning into JFK’s conceptions of citizenship and public service, evoking the enthusiasms and aspirations of the late 60s and the principles Kennedy so eloquently advanced. Lunch & Learn

The JCC presents Cafe Dilemma Lunch & Learn series from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. May 12. At each session a different Rabbi or Jewish educator from the community leads an interactive discussion on interesting and current topics. Coffee and tea provided. University Monday

The JCC presents “Color Outside The Lines” with Professor Kate Beckman of Nassau Community College from noon to 2 p.m. Come to this seminar and develop and expand creative and critical thinking skills. This hands-on workshop will help attendees apply problem solving and analytical skills in professional and everyday settings. The event is free for members and $10 for non-members.

Tuesday Circle

The JCC welcomes the community to come and enjoy lectures, entertainment and holiday celebrations for individuals with a zest for intellectual stimulation. This session will feature vocalist Naomi Zeitlin from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A singer, guitarist and actor with a great deal of performance experience, Zeitlin performs exclusively as a solo cabaret artist for groups, parties, organizations, restaurant and clubs. Medicare Seminar

The Plainview library presents the A, B, C and D’s of Medicare hospital insurance, outpatient medical insurance, Medicare advantage and prescription drug coverage. At 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium, Steven I. Semryck, an independent sales representative with more than 40 years of experience in health, life and financial services industry, will explore the various Medicare options to help determine the most suitable coverage for any need.

Wednesday Circle

The JCC presents this club, which focuses on social, recreational and educational experiences and needs of the 75-plus generation. This Wednesday Circle features vocalist Ricky Pen from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Ricky Pen is a one of a kind entertainer, singer, musician, actress, dancer and comedienne. She has been dazzling audiences worldwide with her band or as a solo act. Ricky sings in 16 languages in a variety of vocal styles from Edith Piaf to The Beatles, from Broadway to rock, from jazz to country. Free for members and $10 for non-members. Israeli Movie Night

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Operation Moses, the Mid-Island Y JCC screens Live And Become for Israeli movie night at 7 p.m. The movie revolves around a young boy who isn’t an orphan, but is transported away from his home during Operation Moses at a Sudanese refugee camp in order to honor his mother’s wishes. Free for members and $10 for non-members.

Lions Club Meeting

Serving the Plainview-Old Bethpage and Bethpage communities since, the Lions Club holds dinner meetings on the second Wednesday of every month except July and August. The Lions Club strives to make a difference in local communities and encourages residents to come in and voice their concerns.
