Farmingdale High School Goes Green

In an effort to spread awareness about the environment, Farmingdale High School’s Go Green Club celebrated Earth Day on April 27, with a day of food and fun for family and friends. Vendors, kites, and even a live band filled the Farmingdale Village Green with commotion.

Under the guidance of Mr. and Mrs. Kramer, Farmingdale’s Go Green Club advisors, the Earth Day festivities were a huge success.

“It’s really Mrs. Kramer running the show this year,” said her husband, “but the kids were extremely helpful  making all the phone calls inviting different groups and helping to set up the tables.”

Various clubs from the high school including the Key Club, Student Government Association, the FarmingdaleFederation of Teachers, National Honor Society, the Art Honor Society, and many others managed tables at Earth Day. Taste of Long Island catered the event, offering free samples to any interested passersby. Musical entertainment was provided by the student band “Urban Montage and Macseal.”  Kramer said that “both the town council and school district have been so supportive throughout the years. It’s great to have such accommodating partners that help make this day happen.”

Earth Day fits in with the mission of the Go Green Club, which is to spread awareness about recycling and renewable resources. The Go Green club is a part of the Earth Day Network, which attempts to spread this message worldwide. This year, the Nassau County Legislature awarded the high school’s Go Green Club with a citation recognizing their efforts within the community.
