Ruth Naomi Honig, 86 of Floral Park resident, died on May 11 in Virginia Beach, VA after a brief illness. Ruth was the devoted wife of Dr. Klaas P. Honig, who predeceased her in 2011. She was the second child of Elsie and Marcus Quarum, born in Grand Forks, ND and raised in Fergus Falls, MN. After receiving her nursing degree from Concordia College, she worked as the head nurse of the neurology unit at Cook County Hospital in Chicago where she met her future husband.
After relocating to New York, she worked as her husband’s office manager and nurse until their retirement. Ruth enjoyed reading, opera, keeping up on current events, spoiling her grandchildren, and volunteering.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Peter Honig of Philadephia, PA, Dr. Mark Honig of Virginia Beach, VA and Janna Torelli of Wayzata, MN, and seven grandchildren. She will be laid to rest with her husband in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Southold Free Library.
