Work To Resume At GN LIRR

trainThe Long Island Rail Road today announced that work to rehabilitate the westbound platform at the LIRR’s Great Neck Station will resume on Monday, June 30. To accommodate the work, the main staircase, leading from Barstow Road, and the platform’s elevator, will be closed through early October.

Work is scheduled to take place during daytime hours without any planned outages to train service.

Workers have completed building a temporary staircase west of the station house. While the work is underway, platform access may be gained by using the temporary stairs. Customers who have difficulty with stairs may wish to consider using the Little Neck or Manhasset Stations, which are equipped with accessibility ramps.

The LIRR is currently performing an ongoing rehabilitation of the Great Neck Station. Work includes the repair or resurfacing of the westbound platform, the retaining walls, pedestrian overpass, canopy, and stairs. The new platform will provide an even surface for passengers who are boarding and exiting trains.

The work to rehabilitate the westbound platform is being done in two phases so that the entire platform is never out of service at one time. Last year, the LIRR rehabilitated the eastern portion of the platform.
