Growing Through Grief

At the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library. Loss can come in many forms – the death of a loved one, loss of a job, a change in the health or physical capabilities of ourselves or our family members, divorce, loss of relationships and even the loss of our sense of self. This workshop will teach people some skills they can use while experiencing loss, the benefits of working with support groups, and how coaching can assist those on the path of the unexpected turns that life often presents. Presented by Beth Bucheister, MA, Certified Professional Coach (CPC). Refreshments will be served. Register at the Reference Desk or call the library at 922-1212. From 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Journal Writing Workshop

Movie: Labor Day

At the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library, 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Thirteen-year-old Henry Wheeler struggles to be the man of his house and care for his reclusive mother Adele, all the while confronting the pangs of adolescence. Henry and his mother encounter Frank Chambers, an intimidating man clearly in need of help. Frank convinces them to take him into their home and later is revealed to be an escaped convict. Infant & Child CPR

At the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library. Appropriate action during the first few minutes of a medical emergency can save a child’s life! Lori Green, a Registered Nurse, certified CPR instructor and former EMT will instruct you in the life-saving techniques of infant & child CPR and Choking. Garage Sale Fundraiser

Huntington-Oyster Bay Audubon Society will be hosting a fundraiser garage sale on June 21 (rain date June 22) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 173 Pulaski Rd., Huntington Station. Due to a generous donation, they will have lots of new and nearly new children’s items for sale as well as other quality items. Deadline For Bus Trip Sign Up

The bus trip to Hyde Park, NY: Culinary Institute of America & the Home of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt will be on Friday, Nov. 14, so sign up now. The Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library and the Life Enrichment Center at Oyster Bay will present a trip with Jim Marino of Oyster Bay Travel. Visit the Culinary Institute of America and the Home of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Price is $90 per person, which includes the bus, lunch and admission to FDR’s House. Bus leaves the library at 7:30 a.m. Please make checks payable to Oyster Bay Travel and register at the Reference Desk at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library no later than Monday, June 23.

A Brush With Cocktails

If you can write your name, you can create art. Indulge your inner artist and join in for an evening of cocktails, music, food and fun, from 7 to 9 p.m. A talented local artist will lead attendees through step-by-step instructions to create the evenings featured painting. It is stress-free and absolutely no experience is necessary.  Attendees will take home their very own masterpiece and many fun memories. Hors d’oeuvres and salads are included and are being provided by Jack Halyards American Bar & Grill. Wine tasting also provided – attendees are also welcome to bring their own beverages. Teen Summer Reading Program

Registration begins on Saturday, June 28. This year’s Teen Summer Reading theme is Spark a Reaction at Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library. Teens in Grades 5-12 (as of September 2014) are eligible. Registration for the Summer Reading Club begins Saturday, June 28 (at the Reference Desk) and ends Friday, July 25, 2014. Reporting begins July 1 and ends Aug.8. Participants will receive a prize for each of the first five books they read and review and will be eligible for a weekly raffle prize for each week that they submit reviews. Teens will also receive a Grand Prize bonus raffle ticket for their 10th book, 15th, 20th, etc. Receive an invitation to the End of Summer Reading Party (Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 2 p.m.) after reading and reviewing three books. There will also be programs throughout the summer.

Children’s Summer Reading Club Kick-Off

Children ages 3 through entering fifth grade are invited to join the summer reading club. Read books, play games, make crafts, see movies and win prizes. Read and report on at least five books (no more than two per day) to receive an invitation to the End of Summer Party in August. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Carnival games, Italian ices and face painting in the backyard: 11 a.m. to noon. From noon to 12:45 p.m., Nappy’s Puppets will be in the Community Room for children who have registered.

Huntington Summer Arts Festival

Bayville’s own Jimmy Webb will be headlining the Opening Weekend for the 49th Huntington Summer Arts Festival. He will perform at the Chapin Rainbow Stage at Heckscher Park in Huntington Village on Saturday, June 28. The concert will begin at 8:30 p.m. Peter Calo will open for and accompany Jimmy for this performance.

Food Pantry

The North Shore Assembly of God, 84 Orchard St., Oyster Bay is operating a new food pantry for the community. It is meant to supplement the growing needs of the community. It is open on Tuesdays during their prayer times: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. If you are in need of their service, please call Pastor Diane at 516-922-2547 and make an appointment to complete their screening process.
