Congratulations Suzie And Rob Alvey –

Rotary Community Service Award

On behalf of the board of trustees and the Village of Garden City, I would like to congratulate Suzie and Rob Alvey on recently receiving the Rotary Community Service Award at the Garden City Country Club. This award was established in 1991 to honor Maurice Kirby, a great Rotarian, a village trustee and an active volunteer in various Garden City organizations.

Suzie has been the village historian since 2013 and since 2009 she has been a member of the village’s civic beautification committee. She has been a freelance artist for the past 30 years working in oil pastels and water color. Her paintings and drawings are in private collections in the United States as well as internationally.

Rob is the founder and president emeritus of the Garden City Bird Sanctuary, which is an innovative and award-winning program for the “dual use” of a 9-acre Nassau County storm water basin in Garden City that has been transformed into a bird sanctuary, arboretum and most importantly, an environmental center for educational purposes. Rob has nearly 40 years experience as a geology and earth scientist.

Thank you Suzie and Rob for all that you manage to do for the Village of Garden City. We appreciate all that you have done for the village and all that you continue to do.

Special Thanks To Our School Crossing Guards

Regardless of the weather conditions during each school day for the past nine months, our school crossing guards have been at their designated posts to watch over our children. Please take a minute during the next few weeks to thank them for doing such a fine job to protect our young people.

Board Of Trustees Meeting

The next meeting of the board of trustees will be on Thursday, June 19 at 8 p.m. I encourage all residents to attend board of trustees meetings so as to be thoroughly informed of village issues from a first-hand perspective.

Shop Locally

Please continue to support the local merchants and I look forward to seeing everyone in town.
