Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Co., 3, 4, and 5 and the ambulance unit responded to a fire on Rose Lane in North New Hyde Park on Sunday, June 8 at 10:21 a.m.
Fire Department Chief Michael Farrone was the first to arrive on the scene and advised responding units that he had “smoke showing,” he said. After getting a report from another M-LFD member on scene,
Farrone transmitted a signal for a fire in the basement of the 1 ½-story private dwelling.
Engine 8758 was the first truck to arrive on the scene and its crew hooked up to a hydrant and stretched a hose line into the basement, authorities said. The crew extinguished the main body of fire which was located in several bays of the basement’s ceiling across two separate rooms.
A second hose line was stretched to the first floor where, while other crews opened up the basement ceiling and walls.
The New Hyde Park Fire Department responded to the scene as the Firefighter Assist and Search Team and the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office responded to investigate the cause of the fire. The owners self-evacuated without injuries and there were no injuries to any firefighters, officials said. The incident was placed under control by Chief Farrone within 30 minutes and all units were released in a little over an hour.
