Hungry contenders shared the winners’ circle at the 35th Annual Long Island Arm Wrestling Championships, at the Universal Health and Fitness Expo at Nassau Coliseum on June 14, including local strong arm Arjun Nagpal, of Floral Park. Nagpal took third place in both right and left hand contests.
The New York Arm Wrestling Association event drew 89 contestants and more than 2,000 spectators, die-hard fans and family and friends cheering for both the favorites and the underdogs in an awesome display of strength, endurance and explosive raw energy. Contestants competed both locally and from as far away as New Zealand.
“This much-anticipated Long Island Championship is the first event of the NY Golden Arm Series, and is one of the oldest and most prestigious arm wrestling title events in New York City,” said Gene Camp, founder and president of the New York Arm Wrestling Association.
This event is part of the NY Golden Arm Series, in which tournaments are held in each of the five NYC boroughs and on Long Island and culminates in the Empire State Championships in November. Since there are no residency requirements, contestants from out-of-state and even foreign countries competed in the open walk-in contest.
“It was one the best events ever. We are happy about the turnout of top quality amateur and pro arm wrestlers and the exciting and eager captive audience who rooted for their favorites in the day-long contest,” Camp added.
The New York Arm Wrestling Association is now scouting venues and sponsors for additional NY Golden Arm Series events. Fans may visit the NYAWA website at nycarms.com for upcoming events, photos, and results or call 718-544-4592 for additional information.
