Friday Night Promenade — Seventh Street
The festive atmosphere that we enjoy each year at the Belmont Festival on Seventh Street is planned to continue each Friday night (during the upcoming summer months) from 6 until 10 p.m. I encourage residents and visitors to come down to Seventh Street to enjoy outdoor dining, live entertainment, face painting, balloon animals and much more. Shops will remain open during the evening for your convenience.

Fireworks Injuries
As adults we know that it is illegal to possess and/or use fireworks. The main reason they became illegal is because they cause injury. Residents are reminded that the police department will be on alert to interdict illegal fireworks use to prevent community disruption and often needless injury. I strongly urge parents, who are the ultimate and most effective preventers, to ban the use of fireworks.
Independence Day
Retail sales will be prohibited in the village between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday, July 4. Certain exceptions are restaurants, delicatessen items and alcoholic beverages.
In observance of Independence Day, municipal offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4 and will reopen on Monday, July 7.
Please Water Our Village Trees
If you have recently had a tree planted in front of your home, please take the time to water it. The proper way to water is to first loosen the soil around the tree if it has become baked hard and then allow a hose to run at the base of the tree at a rate slow enough so that the water will be absorbed into the area around the tree trunk. If you are using a hose at the base of the tree, please do not block any village sidewalks to avoid injury to pedestrians.
Watering hours are from 5 to 10 a.m. and 6 to 10 p.m. Odd-numbered addresses on odd-numbered days and even-numbered addresses on even-numbered days. Thank you for your cooperation.
Youth Related Activity
Police Commissioner Jackson has asked me to inform residents that with the warmer weather upon us, there has been an increase in youth-related activities that have had a negative impact on the community such as, but not limited to, criminal mischief, harassment and alcohol use. This type of behavior could result in tragic consequences.
Parents are urged to speak with their children and stress the importance of making smart decisions, refraining from destructive behavior and respecting others who live in their community. This is particularly true concerning alcohol use. Parents should be aware of the activities their children are involved in, as well as their whereabouts, especially during evening and overnight hours. Alcohol use poses a serious threat to children, as well as the community; it often leads to irrational behavior such as property destruction, or driving under the influence.

The residents of Garden City are very fortunate to have viable retail businesses on Seventh Street, Franklin Avenue and New Hyde Park Road where there is a good variety of quality merchandise and family dining experiences available to be enjoyed. Please support these businesses and enjoy the products, variety and outstanding customer service. Keep in mind that these merchants save you from traveling outside the Village for your needs. Consider the harsh reality if we did not have these businesses here to service our needs. I look forward to seeing everyone in the business districts.
Board Of Trustees Summer Meeting Schedule
During July and August the board of trustees will meet once a month. The dates are Thursday July 17 and Thursday, August 14 at 8 p.m. These meetings are held in the boardroom at village hall I encourage all residents to attend board of trustees meetings so as to be thoroughly informed of village issues from a first-hand perspective.
