The Syosset Teachers’ Association honored students from throughout the Syosset Central School District in May for participating and placing in its annual essay contest. Students read their essays aloud for parents, teachers, administrators and guests during the ceremony.

This year’s contest, which is sponsored by the STA in conjunction with the Long Island Presidents’ Council, required students to write essays based on the topic, “My Teacher Made this Fun to Learn…” The best essays from each English class were sent to the STA, which selected one districtwide winner, in addition to runners-up and honorable mentions in all four divisions. Each participating district submitted one winner from each category to the LIPC. Those winners were then judged and three regional semifinalists were chosen in each category, including Syosset High School junior Christopher Louie.
