Sewanhaka Graduates Class Of 2014

Sewanhaka High School recently held its 84th commencement ceremony and graduated 249 seniors at the David S. Mack Sports Complex at Hofstra University. At the ceremony, Senior Class President Joseph Mazzeo welcomed the class in his speech, recalling the class activities the students shared over the past six years, and recognized their class advisors Meredith Herbert and Michael Nola.

Salutatorian Daniel Sullivan and Valedictorian Robert Myrick also spoke to their classmates. At graduation, the faculty awarded the Harold W. Wright Memorial Scholarship to Myrick, for earning the highest average on 10 New York State Regents exams.

In addition, Tyler Regnier received the Anthony T. Dwyer Memorial Scholarship, awarded to a senior who is an exceptional student, outstanding team leader, and participated in football or lacrosse. Tyler’s name will be added to the plaque on the arch that sits at the entrance to the school’s football field.

Dr. Ralph Ferrie, superintendent of schools addressed the graduates, as did Senator Jack Martins. The senior high chorus performed two songs, “Some Nights” and “It’s Time for Moving On,” and the senior high band performed, “A Disney Spectacular.”
