Children’s Story Times

Story time begins on Wednesday, July 16 and runs through Wednesday, Aug. 13. 10:15 a.m.: Mother Goose Time (9-23 months); 10:40 a.m.: Toddler Time (24-35 months); 11:15 a.m.: Book/Game Buddies (3-6 years), at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library.

Comic Strip Workshop

For grades 5-12, at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library. Artist and publisher Peter Simeti will help you create a four-panel comic strip featuring your favorite characters or characters you’ve created. OB Band Concerts

Mammography Van

Legislator Donald MacKenzie has arranged for the Nassau University Medical Center Mobile Mammography Van to be in the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library parking lot to provide breast cancer screenings for women over age 50. The screening will include a breast examination by a nurse, a mammography and instructions for breast self-examination. If it’s been at least a year since your last mammography and you are planning to receive an exam, you will need a prescription for the exam from your doctor (if you have insurance) and must provide any past exam films, if available. Women with health insurance will be required to make a co-payment. The mammography is free for uninsured women, based on eligibility guidelines. 8:45 a.m. to noon

Movie: Grand Budapest Hotel

The adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting and the battle for an enormous family fortune. Starring: F. Murray Abraham, Mathieu Amalric, Ralph Fiennes. (Rated R for language, some sexual content and violence, 100 min.) At the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library, 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

What Makes Wall Street Run

The Oyster Bay Historical Society, 20 Summit St., on July 17, at 7 p.m. presents author, lawyer and businessman Malcolm MacKay discussing Impeccable Connections: The Rise and Fall of Richard Whitney. He tells how Whitney, the New York Stock Exchange president, precipitated the stock market collapse of 1929. It is a primer on the securities regulations that are in today’s headlines. The program at the Koenig Center admission is $10 for members, and $15 for the general public. Copies of the book will be available for signing. Light refreshments available. Lego Club

Tables will be set up in the Green Room where children can build whatever their imaginations can come up with. All Lego creations will remain in the library. Children under 9 must be accompanied by an adult. At the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library, 10 a.m. to noon.

Dancing In The Street

The Oyster Bay Main Street Association presents “Dancing In The Street,” a series of free dance evenings on Audrey Avenue around the bandstand on Fridays on July 18 and 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. Singles and couples, dancers of all ages, skills and styles are welcome. Sponsored by BMW of Oyster Bay, street candy will include their newest model cars on display. Mark James assisted by Karen Lupo will take the lead. Bayville Car Show

Music Under The Stars

The Incorporated Village of Bayville Presents: Music Under the Stars, an annual free summer concert series at West Harbor Memorial Park in Bayville. This week’s performers are The Rockinghams (‘60s cover band with tie dye theme). The concerts are Friday evenings from 8 to 10 p.m. (weather permitting) and are free to the general public. History Walk

Join Oyster Bay Historical Society Director Phil Blocklyn on a foot tour of Oyster Bay, featuring the historical sites along East and West Main Street, Audrey Avenue, and South Street in the heart of the hamlet at 2 p.m. [July 19, and Aug. 9, fee $25; each tour different]. Kaplan Combo Practice SAT/ACT Exam    

For grades 9-12 as of Sept. 2014 only. This 3   .5 hour Combo Practice Test helps students decide which test is right for them. Students receive feedback that compares their performance on each of the analogous test sections of the two exams—for example, SAT math section vs. ACT math section. This is a perfect opportunity to experience both tests. Bring at least two #2 pencils and a calculator. Beauty And The Beast

On July 22 at 10:30 a.m. experience live musical theater with Beauty And The Beast as performed by Plaza Productions at the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park. Presented by the Town of Oyster Bay for children of all ages.

Make Rice Krispie Treats

Make Snap Crackle Pop Firecracker Rice Krispie Treats at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library. For grades 5-12 as of Sept. 2014; 4 to 5 p.m. Shape Rice Krispies into the shape of a firecracker. Then add melted chocolate and sprinkles to make a delicious treat. Register at the reference desk or call the library at 516-922-1212.

During a transatlantic flight from New York City to London, U.S. Air Marshal Bill Marks receives a series of cryptic text messages demanding that he instruct the government to transfer $150 million into an off-shore account. Sail For Deafness

This is the deadline to sign up for the Sail the Sound for Deafness event on Aug. 7 and receive early bird discounts. The event includes a Regatta and a Cocktail Party, in a partnership between the Mill Neck Manor, Oakcliff Sailing Center, the WaterFront Center and the Oyster Bay Marine Center. Food Pantry

The North Shore Assembly of God, 84 Orchard St., Oyster Bay is operating a new food pantry for the community. It is meant to supplement the growing needs of the community. It is open on Tuesdays during their prayer times: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. If you are in need of their service, please call Pastor Diane at 516-922-2547 and make an appointment to complete their screening process.

Gregory Reid Exhibit

The Oyster Bay Historical Society, 20 Summit St., presents a retrospective exhibit by Gregory Reid at the Koenig Center now through Sept. 5. The original works are for sale with a portion benefiting the OBHS. For more information and hours call 922-5032.

Fabulous Interiors At Coe Hall

Coe Hall Mansion at Planting Fields hosts an exhibit through Sept. 30 featuring Fabulous Interiors by Elsie de Wolfe and Charles Duveen, 1915 – 1945 is open daily at Coe Hall from 11:30am to 3:30pm. Admission is free with $4 Coe Hall admission fee. The Tea House is open daily from 12:30 to 2 p.m., entrance to the Tea House is free with $8 parking fee.

Pop-Up Gallery

East Norwich hosts the At-Home-Gallery at 6306 25A, opposite Rothmann’s, now through July, or by appointment. It features abstract oil paintings by Jill S. Krutick and rugs by Heirloom, of Locust Valley. For information call 914-522-0420.
