The Town of Oyster Bay Sports Commission (TOBSC) hosted the first presentation of its TOBSC Symposium Series, focusing on knee and shoulder injury awareness and prevention at the Hicksville Athletic Center. The program was led by TOBSC Board Member William J. Schwarz, PT, PC and provided invaluable information to all attendees.
Dr. Schwarz, who played Division 1 lacrosse for Villanova University, has a practice in Massapequa and is well known and highly respected in the field of sports related physical therapy. He is often sought out by the area’s top athletes. The symposium was the first in a series of free forums scheduled and sponsored by the TOBSC.
The next symposium, slated for Thursday, July 31 at the Hicksville Athletic Center located at 167 S. Broadway in Hicksville, will center on football- related injuries, prevention and technique.
“It is essential for any parents, coaches and players involved in football,” Schwarz said. Registration will be held online at www.oysterbaysportscommission.org or at the door from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The seminar will start at 7 p.m.
“The forum will not only focus on treating football related injuries, but, perhaps more importantly, on how to help avoid them by utilizing proper technique and instruction,” said TOBSC Chairman Leonard Genova. “Like all of our TOBSC symposiums, the agenda will relate to topics that have been in the forefront in the sports community. They are geared to helping coaches and parents establish a pro-active approach to their child’s safe and enjoyable involvement in sports.”
