Hicksville High School senior Kyle Carroll recently participated in the prestigious Blue Grey Super Combine in Canton OH. Over 7,000 high school football players are invited to combines sponsored by Blue Grey Football throughout the country. Carroll was recognized for his overall scores and abilities during the one on one drills and was honored to have been chosen as one of 140 athletes invited to the Super Combine at the Football Hall of Fame. From there, a select few will be invited to play in the Blue Grey All-America Bowls in December in Texas and in January in Florida.
The Super Combine in Canton took place on Fawcett Field at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The combine featured some of the top football prospects from around the country. Carroll fit seamlessly into the drills as he displayed impressive work with fast feet and hip turns as well as skilled ball handling ability.
Carroll received his early training as a Hicksville Crusader where his favorite drill was the Circle of Death. He then progressed through the Hicksville Middle School and High School football teams earning the reputation of an intense athlete and natural leader. Carroll proved his strength, determination and commitment to the game of football in April 2012 when he was diagnosed with an osteochondroma — a 3” bone tumor on his femur. After undergoing unexpected surgery in May 2012, the tumor was removed and deemed benign, but Carroll’s fight did not end there. He told his surgeon that he wanted to be on the field for football season come August.
His doctor told him that it was likely he would miss his sophomore football season. Undeterred, Carroll took full responsibility for his rehabilitation and devoted himself to three months of intense physical therapy, arriving at the office at 7 a.m. three days a week for the entire summer and continuing the prescribed exercises at home to achieve his goal of full recovery and return to the football field.
He achieved his goals by impressing his surgeon with full recovery and strength of his leg, was cleared for all sports, and returned to the football field the very next day. Two days later, noting the raw talent and drive in #4, he was promoted to the Varsity squad by his coaches. Since then Carroll has played cornerback and wide receiver for Hicksville’s Varsity Comets as well as returning Kick-Off and punt returns and for a time was even the long snapper. Carroll is active in his recruiting process as he hopes to play football in college and plans to study and become a Physical Therapist.
