The Board of Trustees of Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities, Inc. (ACLD) recently named Robert C. Goldsmith of Jericho to the position of executive director.
“These are challenging times for agencies providing services to the special needs community,” said Goldsmith. “My goal is to build on ACLD’s foundation of success and continue the mission of providing an enviable life for the individuals whom they serve.”
In his new position, Goldsmith will oversee the entire ACLD organization to provide strategic direction, innovative leadership, program integrity, and identification of emerging opportunities. He succeeds Aaron Liebowitz, who will officially retire at the end of this year after more than 35 years of dedicated service. Liebowitz will remain with ACLD during this transition as executive director emeritus.
Goldsmith has previously served as the associate executive director at AHRC Nassau and as the former chief operating officer/associate executive director of AHRC NYC. His 30-year career in the non-profit and business sectors includes healthcare management, education, and finance experience. He has developed solutions to complex financial and service-related challenges, and his background as a successful business owner gives him a unique perspective.
“I was attracted to ACLD because of its outstanding reputation and celebrated history,” said Goldsmith. “The Board and the staff are committed to the highest quality of service for people with developmental disabilities and their families.”
Founded in 1957, ACLD serves more than 3,000 individuals with autism and developmental disabilities, and their families, by increasing their independence and improving the quality of their lives.
“The Board of Trustees unanimously approved Bob Goldsmith’s leadership appointment and welcome him to our ACLD family,” said Joseph J. Ortego, president of the ACLD Board of Trustees. “It is clear to our Board that he possesses a keen understanding of the changes taking place in the regulatory environment and their potential impact on the individuals and families that ACLD serves. His energy and commitment will be integral to the future success of the agency.”
