Founders, Scott Reich and Michael Winik met on the school bus heading to elementary school and continued that friendship through high school and college: both are proud alums of the University of Pennsylvania, and they always talked about starting a business that makes a difference in the community.
Reich, an attorney, and Winik, an investment banker, were both very successful in their respective careers. But they recently left their jobs and set their sights on a new challenge.
The co-founders aimed to address some of the challenges with the current food supply chain: artificial additives in many products; questions about where food products come from; lack of freshness; and long lines at grocery stores.
OurHarvest donates a meal to the food pantries of Port’s St. Peter’s of Alcantara or Our Lady of Fatima.
They started OurHarvest by partnering with local farmers and fishermen to bring their fresh, all-natural products to communities across Long Island. Customers visit their website (www.ourharvest.com), choose a convenient pick-up location and date, and then pick up their
food. OurHarvest serves Port Washington, Roslyn, New Hyde Park, Hicksville, East Meadow and Huntington—with plans for continued expansion.
The food is competitively priced so that not only is it affordable, but hard-working farmers are paid well for their products, Khalil said. “I find it cheaper than Whole Foods.”
