Serena Williams was at the U.S. Open today speaking with reporters after the Returning The Love tennis clinic. Returning the Love unites the US Open with players from the ATP and WTA tours, proactively reaching out to New York City communities and surrounding areas — including youth, families and nonprofit organizations — to create a positive and lasting impact.
Williams is seeded number one as she seeks her third straight U.S. Open title.
She will face an up-and-coming American player Taylor Townsend, age 18, in the first round of the US Open. This Townsend’s third major tournament.
Townsend is a former top-ranked junior player who reached the third round at the French Open this year. She got into her first US Open main draw with a wild card. Whoever advances will be from the U.S. to play the winner of the Francesca Schaivone(Italy)/Vania King (U.S.) match in the next round.
The 32-year-old Williams has won 17 Grand Slam titles. She has won the U.S. Open five times and is looking to collect number six this year.
