The Plainview library presents two showings, 3 and 7:30 p.m., of The Grand Budapest Hotel. The adventures of Gustave H (Ralph Fiennes), a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa (F. Murray Abraham), the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend.

Reverse Your Mortgage
The Plainview library invites residents to learn all about reverse mortgages, how the government insured program works and how reversing mortgages allows homeowners 62 and older to turn their home into equity while still living in and owning their own home. The 2 p.m. event is hosted by Julian Giaquinto, a licensed mortgage banker and a member of the Society of Certified Senior Advisors.

Cover To Cover Book Club
The Mid-Island Y JCC hosts a book club from 10:30 a.m. to noon, hosted by librarian Gretchen Browne. This month’s selection is Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein, this young-adult historical focuses on the friendship between two young British women in World War II, a spy captured by the Nazis in German-occupied France and the pilot who brought her there.
Writing Your Memories
The Mid-Island Y JCC presents Writing Your Memories Workshop at 3:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to write down experiences and share them with a younger generation. Share the stories of your life with children, grandchildren and friends. It is a wonderful chance to create a legacy of stories for your loved ones.
Game Changers
Join Dr. William Thierfelder for the continuation of his Game Changers series at the Plainview library as he discussions Albert Einstein and his impact on the world. The Game Changers series explores persons or events that changed the world, the nation or the way we live. From artists, composers and writers to significant historical events, each presentation delves into the lives and happenings that make our planet what it is today.

World War I Anniversary
The Mid-Island Y JCC hosts a lecture on strategy and techniques the U.S. government used in persuading the American public that World War I was being fought “to make the world safe for democracy.” What was the policy followed by the government with those who dissented and expressed their opposition to the country’s involvement in the Great War? After the war, what impact did the success of wartime propaganda have on the American psyche? These questions and more will be discussed during this infomrative event, from noon until 2 p.m. The event is free for members and $10 for non-members. All ages. What’s In Your Medicine Cabinet?
The Plainview library presents this useful seminar at 2 p.m. Want to know what to keep in your medicine cabinet and why? How to keep your medications safe or properly dispose of them? What drug interactions should you be aware of? Pharmacist Len Langino of North Shore-LIJ Health Systems Medical Group will address all of these questions and more in the auditorium.

Sheri Miller In Concert
The Plainview library hosts critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Sheri Miller for an afternoon of beautiful love songs starting at 3 p.m. Miller sings and plays soulful and catchy songs while accompanying herself on guitar. She also enjoys playing popular classics from varied artists such as Louis Armstrong, Judy Garland, Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles and more, to delight and entertain her audience.

Clutterers Anonymous
This 12-step self-help group offers help and support to those who have clutter problems in their homes or workplace. Meets at the following locations: Thursdays, 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 265 Asbury Ave., Westbury first and third Friday, 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the School of the Community Reformed Church, 90 Plandome Rd., Manhasset.Monday evenings, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Plainview-Old Bethpage Library, 999 Old Country Rd., Plainview. Plainview-Old Bethpage Cares (POB Cares) and Project Plainview Assisting Community Elders (Project PACE), programs at the Mid-Island Y JCC, are recruiting volunteers (18 years and older) to help senior residents in Plainview-Old Bethpage. Volunteers are needed to drive clients to local medical appointments, do grocery shopping and minor home repairs. Volunteers are also needed to be friendly visitors or telephone companions to homebound seniors. Training is provided. Flexible schedule — volunteers can make a difference in as little as two hours a week.
