Friday Night Promenade On Seventh Street
During the summer months Seventh Street has been closed from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday evenings so that residents and visitors can enjoy the “Friday Night Promenades.” This week, the band Fivestone, (playing music from the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s), will be performing on Seventh Street. Also making an appearance on Seventh Street this evening will be Queen Elsa (from the Disney Movie Frozen). She will conduct a meet and greet from 6:30 to 7:20 p.m. Following the meet and greet, Elsa will perform. Also this evening, Gina Naomi Baez will be performing beginning at 8 p.m.
This program began in June and I am looking forward to seeing many residents and visitors on Seventh Street as we continue to close Seventh Street, between Franklin and Hilton Avenues, each Friday evening, so that residents and visitors to Garden City can enjoy the outdoor dining and live entertainment offered by local restaurants as well as shopping in the stores and shops who will remain open during the evening. I hope that you make it a point to bring your family out to see what is offered.
Please try to get to Seventh Street this Friday as Sept. 12 will be the last Friday Night Promenade for 2014.

The Garden City Fire Department will be holding its 13th Anniversary of 9/11 by conducting a short service to remember those who lost their lives on 9/11. The program will be held on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m., (with assembly beginning at 6:45 p.m.), on the village green (corner of Stewart and Hilton Avenues).
Police Department News
Each week in this column I will be including information from Commissioner Jackson of our police department. This week he has asked that I include the following.
Aggressive Driving
Recent serious accidents in Garden City and nearby jurisdictions remind us of the dangers of aggressive driving. Speeding, tailgating, unsafe lane usage and passing red lights are examples of aggressive driving that often lead to unfortunate consequences. All motorists are urged to drive safely and obey traffic laws. In addition, the Garden City Police Department will be conducting grant-funded aggressive driving patrols to coincide with the beginning of the fall school season.
Board Of Trustees Meeting Schedule
The next meeting of the board of trustees will be on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. in the boardroom at village hall. I encourage all residents to attend board of trustees meetings so as to be thoroughly informed of village issues from a first-hand perspective. I hope to see you at a board meeting.
