Sophia Kang is a resident of Roslyn who spent nearly two decades working as an interior designer. So when she decided to start her own business, there was no need to relocate. Kang operates Sophia Home, Accents & Designs, a store that is celebrating its two-year anniversary at 3 Bryant Ave. in downtown Roslyn.
Kang said the Roslyn store is her first one in the area, even though she hopes to expand to other villages. For now, she is glad to have a business that gives her neighbors and other Long Islanders a chance to purchase home accessories at both the high-end and less expensive levels.
“I was an interior designer for 17 years and I thought Roslyn could use a shop like this,” Kang told The Roslyn News.
Describing business as “pretty good,” Kang said Sophia Home is able to accommodate customers at a higher level than the average home accessory store.
Namely, Sophia Home is staffed entirely by people who are also interior designers.
“They can give plenty of valuable design tips,” Kang said. “We are able to perform more services for customers. We are a full service store.” That includes showcasing entire houses with their accessories.
In all, Kang said the stores carries “unique items at more reasonable prices.” That includes artwork for the home, bedding and pillows, decorating accessories, fragrances, picture frames, furniture, garden and patio, kitchen and tabletop, lighting, mirrors, plus Kang’s own brand name silk flowers and pillow collections.
Every year, Sophia Home holds an annual sale. Currently, the store is having its biggest sale ever. From Sept. 18 through Sept. 20, everything in the store is on sale, at prices ranging from 30 to 50 percent off.
Every business in downtown Roslyn has to contend with parking. For Kang, this is not a problem at all. Sophia Home is next to Diane’s Bakery, the longtime popular establishment that also offers parking for Sophia customers. In addition, there are parking spots in the back of the store.
With two solid years behind them, Sophia Home is looking forward to many more successful years in downtown Roslyn.
