Living With Pulmonary Fibrosis Program

From 12:15 to 1:45 p.m., Winthrop-University Hospital is offering a free seminar for the community, “Living with Pulmonary Fibrosis.” The program will be presented at the Winthrop Welcome Center, located at 1300 Franklin Ave., Suite ML-5, in Garden City.

Harpeth Rising Concert

Our Times Coffeehouse welcomes fall with a concert by Harpeth Rising, three very talented women who know how to sing and rock a banjo, a cello and a violin. Hallmarks of their music include expansive three-part harmonies, consummate musicianship and a deft yet soulful lyrical perspective, weaving together ancient and modern ideas. The show starts at 8 p.m. and the suggested donations are $15 adults; children under 12, $6. Tickets will be on sale at the door. No pre-sales are available. A Hands-on Introduction To PowerPoint

The Garden City Public Library will be holding an introductory computer class at 10 a.m. Attendees will learn to create exciting computerized presentations with Microsoft PowerPoint, a program that can be used as an aid in giving speeches and presentations. Work with computer animation and video as you learn the basics of creating a slideshow including creating, saving, editing, formatting, adding multimedia objects and animation effects and much more. Registration must be done in person, began on Tuesday, Sept. 2 and is limited to Garden City Library cardholders.

Marvelous Movie Matinee

A screening of the 2010 romantic comedy thriller The Tourist starring Johnny Damon and Angelina Jolie will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library. The event will be held in Meeting Room B. Funding is provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Political Talking Heads

From 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Garden City Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its season kick-off luncheon program at the Garden City Hotel, where the keynote speakers will be the Democratic and Republican nominees for the U.S. Congress in New York’s Fourth Congressional District. Bruce A. Blakeman (R), Conservative and Independence nominee and Kathleen Rice (D), Nassau County District Attorney, will speak separately expressing their respective views on the future of the district and impact upon its business community.
