When Massapequa’s  Sean Posner’s dog Moose passed away at the age of seven, his loving owner decided to honor him.

With the help of his friends and family, Posner, then 11, gathered toys, food and pet supplies to donate to a local animal shelter. A newcomer to charity work, Posner loved giving back and wanted to do more.

Now 14, Posner is the proud creator of Kids Adopt A Shelter (KAAS), a network of kids and their families across the country on a mission to help comfort and support animals that are in shelters. The charity’s Facebook page has reached over 13,000 fans since its start in the beginnig of 2012. Spreading to 26 chapters across the country, KAAS is finazling plans to become a 501(c)(3) organization.

“Kids Adopt A Shelter” helps to provide shelters with the resources to host collection drives and request sponsors, such as Petco. The charity also assists in the adoption of animals by finding them a loving family.

Thanks to Moose, more dogs and cats can have a happier and healthier life in a shelter, while they wait for their forever home.
