Last month, the Village of East Hills held its Annual Appreciation Day Brunch honoring the village’s volunteers, who work tirelessly throughout the year to help make the village the special place it is.
“We are very fortunate to have such a hard-working, devoted and conscientious team of volunteers to help us accomplish our community goals,” said Mayor Michael R. Koblenz. “I thank everyone who has been a part of the East Hills team for making our events, committees and boards so successful.”
This year’s theme, “Hats Off To Our Volunteers” was interpreted by Co-Chairs Donna Liebowitz and Kelly Spier. Hats of all types, shapes and sizes could be seen everywhere, including up in tree branches in several of the floral centerpieces created and donated by Muscari Fine Flowers & Blooms.
The walls and the tables, which were each a different Hats Off theme, incorporated the use of photography in each centerpiece. Celebrities, socialites, sports figures, musicians, cartoons, political figures, dating all the way back to Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, and public service workers could be seen taking off their hats.
There was even a historical time lapse film sequence featured on one centerpiece depicting a straw hat being taken off of a gentleman’s head. A similar straw hat could be seen in this cinema-themed centerpiece which was surrounded by popcorn and movie ticket stubs.
A paper hat garland, created by children poolside at our end of summer celebration, was on display above the buffet, thanks to the Kids In The Park Committee, Celia Ayenesazan and Trustee Clara Pomerantz who led the effort.
“The artistic decorations made for a spirited and joyous event,” Koblenz added. “I thank them for helping us to celebrate a day devoted to all those who lend their time and efforts to further our community. I thank Donna and Kelly for making appreciation day a great success. We all know it took hard work to plan and prepare such a dynamic function.”
Each guest left with a Village of East Hills baseball cap as a token of appreciation for their great service to the village.
