That’s a Smash! Great Producers of the ‘60s and ‘70s
This is a fast-paced, multimedia program that profiles four of the most important record producers of the ‘60s and ‘70s: George Martin (The Beatles); Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys); Phil Ramone (Billy Joel); and Phil Spector (Wall of Sound). Sharing lots of rare audio, video clips, PowerPoint and in-the-studio anecdotes about many great songs, the program explores how creative producers made brilliant choices that influenced artists, their incredible albums and the musical tastes of an entire generation. Presenter Clive Young has covered the music industry for 20 years at Pro Sound News and Pro Audio Review, where he is managing editor. Movie At The Library
See Million Dollar Arm at Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library, 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. JB Bernstein is a once-successful sports agent who may have to close his business. To save it, he comes up with an idea so radical it just might work. Setting off for Mumbai, JB stages a televised, nationwide competition called ‘Million Dollar Arm’ where two young finalists emerge as winners. JB brings them back to the US with a goal: get them signed as pitchers to a major league team. While the boys learn the game, they teach JB the meaning of teamwork and commitment, and JB finds a family. Oyster Festival
The 31st Annual Oyster Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18 and 19 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event kicks off with the Supervisor’s 5K Run on Oct. 18. For fee and registration call 797-4125 [prompt 1]. Enjoy pirate treasure hunts, music for all ages, huge multiple tents filled with handmade crafts; carnival rides, exotic petting zoo, performance dogs. Profits from all food court sales directly support 25 participating local charities while proceeds from carnival rides and merchandise sales is donated to additional charities supported by the Rotary throughout the year. Admission is free. A family-friendly event, the Oyster Festival remains alcohol-free and pet-free.
Artisan Market Place
The Main Street Nursery at 475 West Main St., Huntington, hosts a Family Fall Event on Oct. 18 and 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Vendors include: antique dealers, wood working crafts, face painters, jewelry makers, crafts, artists and potters, etc. Enjoy the food and fun at the Boo Zoo and their own famous Hay Maze. Haunting Coe Hall Event
