In honor of Board of Education Recognition Month, Hicksville School District students honored board trustees at the Oct. 22 meeting.
Middle school and high school students acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the board of education by making speeches that expressed appreciation. High school sophomore Matthew Sloan said the board fosters positivity and togetherness in many ways, such as regularly recognizing students’ achievements throughout the year.
“Recognition of achievements gives students a sense of drive and pride,” he said. “It gives you the feeling of importance for your school and your community. I would like to extend my thankfulness for all the board of education does for the students of Hicksville and the entire community. They provide tremendous opportunities for the students of this great district.”
With their parents and principals in attendance, children from the district’s seven elementary schools then individually thanked each board member and gave them a token of appreciation
Acting Superintendent of Schools Marianne Litzman also recognized the achievements of Julie Choi and Sebastian Niculescu, the high school’s National Merit Semifinalists. Choi and Niculescu were presented with certificates of recognition by Board President Phil Heckler.
