Oyster Bay High School senior Cassidy Archdeacon is among the highest-scoring participants who are being recognized in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Of the more than 50,000 high scorers nationwide, approximately 34,000 students were commended for their performance on the Preliminary, SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Details about the competition and levels of program recognition are described on the National Merit Scholarship website.
Archdeacon has made herself a valuable asset to the Oyster Bay High School learning community. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Science Honor Society and the Foreign Language Honor Society. Archdeacon has shown herself to be a true leader serving as captain of the Varsity Cheerleading Team. During her high school years, she has been the historian, secretary and vice president of the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) club. In middle school, she was treasurer of the National Junior Honor Society.
Archdeacon has been honored with many awards including AP Scholar with Distinction, Achievement in English, the Renaissance Award and Excellence in English. She has done very well entering her work in contests. She was a “My World” poetry contest winner, “Live Poets Society” poetry contest winner, a Thomas Pynchon essay contest finalist and a “Freedom to Read” essay contest Honorable Mention recipient. Her photography was selected to be displayed in the Long Island Media Arts Show and her poetry was selected to be published in AGAPAE (OBHS literary magazine).
Archdeacon was also involved in the Lip Sync Committee, Float Decorating Committee, Hallway Decorating Committee, the Interact Club and Social Media Club.
Archdeacon plans to study media, marketing, advertising and design at college. She has already done substantial work in laying the groundwork to realize her goal by participating in the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) Precollege programs including The Styling of the Home, Food, and Fashion, Magazine Design, and Intermediate Photography.
Archdeacon is her Campus High School Ambassador and was involved in the Teen Vogue Fashion University.
Outside of school, Archdeacon has worked as a marketing assistant for ABI Research, a sales associate for Chrison & Bellina and at “What’s Cooking?” as a chef.
Representing the epitome of the well rounded student, Archdeacon finds time to give back with community service. For the past four years, Archdeacon has volunteered at the Life Enrichment Center of Oyster Bay. She has served as a tutor for children in grades K through six and volunteers at the Oyster Bay School District Children’s Library.
And now, Archdeacon can add a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit® Scholarship Program to her long list of impressive accomplishments.
