Hicksville Business Owner Dukes It Out

The Long Island Fight for Charity will be hosting its 11th annual Charity Boxing Event on Nov. 24 at the Hilton in Melville. Among the 20 volunteers putting up their fists for funds will be Hicksville business owner Mell Goldman, who will be fighting under the nickname “The Kid.”

Goldman is the President of All Boro Cleaning Services. He stated that he was enticed at the opportunity and wanted to contribute to charity.

Goldman, who will be participating in the event for the first time, has no previous boxing experience. “You can fight in the streets but boxing is tough,” said Goldman. “I’m learning the basics right now, but it’s taking a lot of hard work.”

In preparation for the event, Goldman has been training at the Glen Cove Boxing club with some of the other participants. He noted that he has been putting in plenty of hours of training—generally running three times per week and sparring twice per week.

The tournament will feature boxers from the business community in Long Island. According to Matt Silver, the co-founder of the LIFFC, the event has raised over $800,000 since its inception. Their goal is to raise $200,000 this year. The proceeds will go to the Long Island Community Chest, The Genesis School and the National Foundation for Human Potential.

The other boxers that will be competing are Sal “The Hammer” Ferro, Frank “The Tornado” Bravata, Michael “All Business” Dellaquila, Jason “Balboa” Frangoulis, Anila “Flaka” Gjegji, James “No Excuses” Mantione, Jamie “Superfly” Stuart, Lisa “The Professor” Consolo, Peter “Blue Eyes” Desiderio, Jessica “Big Guns” Gallone, Joe “Limo King of the Ring” Palumbo, Wendy “The Sweetest Sin” Sincuir, Rhonda  “Master of Financial Disaster” Klch, Stefan “Lights Out” Borovina, Stefan “Lights Out” Borovina, Joanne “Turbo Jo” Duchnowski, Anila “Flaka” Gjegji and Tai “ The Mop” Vicari.

General seats are $150, V.I.P. seats for the event will cost $225. Both of those include admission to the cocktail reception and pre-event networking. The doors will open at 6 p.m., while the event will begin at 6:30 p.m.
