Art in the Afternoon: Albrecht Dürer
Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528) was Nuremberg’s most important Late Gothic artist and as such, created an art filled with intricate symbolism presented in a style of astonishingly detailed realism. Perspective, proportion, solid and full-bodied volume of figures, idealism, the exact role of the artist—all became his obsessions. He made his mark by joining his precise observations of the real world with the realm of classical perfection. Truly a humanist, scholar-artist and innovator, he can be called the Father of the Northern Renaissance. This fascinating visual Powerpoint lecture runs from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Bethpage Library auditorium and lobby. Admission is free and all are welcome.
