Medicare Made Easy

The New Long-Term Care Landscape
This Alzheimer’s Resource Center presentation will cover how Long Term Care Insurance works, how to utilize it if someone is covered, identifying spouse and children who could benefit from coverage, and discuss how new health plan designs and laws help affect the affordability and flexibility of Long Term Care Insurance. Movie: An Old Fashioned Thanksgiving
Things are so bad for recently widowed farmer Mary Bassett and her three children that this Thanksgiving they may not even be able to afford a turkey for their dinner. Suddenly, Mary’s wealthy and estranged mother Isabella comes for a visit. Although Isabella finds a kindred spirit in Mary’s eldest daughter and budding writer Tilly, Mary resents her mother’s attempts to help them out of their financial difficulties. It will take more than money to heal the emotional wounds that exist between mother and daughter. Informative Hospital Talk
The Oyster Bay Civic Association will host Susan Kwiatek, executive director of NS-LIJ Glen Cove Hospital on Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. for a talk at the Italian-American Citizens Club, 48 Summit St., Oyster Bay. Kwiatek will present an overview of what has been transpiring at the hospital and will clarify the new model of care that is being implemented. Additionally, it should be known that Glen Cove Hospital has recently been designated as a temporary center for the treatment of confirmed Ebola patients.

Food Drive Begins
The Community Social Action Committee will be offering food certificates or food baskets to the needy families and individuals living in the Oyster Bay-East Norwich community. We are calling upon our local residents for support. A large number of families, individuals and seniors will be given assistance for the upcoming holiday season. Nonperishable food items and turkeys will be accepted at the First Presbyterian Church on East Main Street in Oyster Bay, on Monday, Nov. 24 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., and Tuesday, Nov. 25 between 9 a.m. and noon. If you would like to donate a turkey, it must be delivered frozen on Tuesday, Nov. 25, before noon.
Donations can be mailed to the C.S.A.C. Holiday Sharing Program, Box 231, Oyster Bay, NY 11771. Your donation will be used to purchase the necessary food certificates and supplies to keep this important outreach program going.

At 2 p.m., the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library will offer a children’s movie: Mr. Peabody and Sherman. Plein Art Exhibit

Food Pantry
The North Shore Assembly of God, 84 Orchard St., Oyster Bay is operating a new food pantry for the community. It is meant to supplement the growing needs of the community. It is open on Tuesdays from noon to 1 p.m. If you are in need of their service, please call Pastor Diane at 516-922-2547 and make an appointment to complete their screening process.
