Basketball season is starting at Roslyn High School. And that should mean plenty of excitement and big wins as both the girls’ and boys’ teams have played excellent ball in recent years.

All this comes on the heels of a successful fall sports season, one that saw the varsity boys’ volleyball team win the Nassau County Conference I title, the boys’ soccer team earning the co-champion title for that same league and the girls’ soccer team also being crowned as co-champions in Conference I competition.

As in other sports, teamwork was the key to the success these teams enjoyed. However, individual heroics were essential, too. The Roslyn teams won county titles, so it was only natural that some of their players were among the county’s elites in individual scoring.

For boys’ soccer, Kyle Galin finished the year with seven goals and 11 assists for 18 total points, a number that was tied for third among 2014 scoring leaders. Galin’s teammate, Zach Moscowitz, had 12 goals and two assists, giving him a total of 14 points, tied for sixth in the county. Galin’s best game was the Sept. 10 win over Valley Stream North, when he had four total points. Galin had three total points on two other occasions and scored in every Roslyn game.

Moscowitz also scored in every game. He, too, reached his top total of three points in the Valley Stream North game. He scored two points in three other contests.

For the girls’ squad, Celina Falzarano finished with 14 goals and three assists for 17 total points, putting her in the top 10 for scoring leaders. Falzarano scored three goals in three different games, those against Oyster Bay, Great Neck South and Hewlett.  On the defensive side, Talia Berman had 87 saves, also placing her among the top goalkeepers in the county.
