The Village of Roslyn is known all across Long Island for its many fine, trendy restaurants. Now, to compliment those establishments, Roslyn native Kendall Berman has opened Nooks & Kindles, a juice bar offering an all-organic lineup of juices. Nooks & Kindles is located in downtown Roslyn on 1354 Old Northern Blvd. where it sublets space from Delicacies.It opened on Nov. 1 and according to Berman, the store is “trying to build awareness” about its unique menu. Berman said that Delicacies has around 800 visitors each day and she hopes that more than a few of them make their way to the new juice bar.
Berman notes that the new store is surrounded by “fifty-plus” fitness facilities within a 10-mile radius, which allows for a “huge health, fitness and wellness market” that can benefit Nooks & Kindles.
Berman herself keeps a busy schedule. She is a full-time student at Hofstra who also interns in Manhattan. Still, along with her two business partners, Nick Pace and Brittany Cacossa, Berman has found the time and energy to open here “store within a store” concept. Prior to opening Nook & Kindles, Berman and her partners, in 2012, began a wholesale healthy dessert business, where they sold paleo, vegan and gluten free desserts. In just two short years, all the major Long Island health food stores carry their products.
Berman is hoping for the same success with Nooks & Kindles.
“All our products are certified organic,” she told The Roslyn News. “Every juice we serve has robust and balanced flavors.”
“We serve fresh pressed juices, smoothies, Acai Bowls, protein shakes, wheatgrass shots and healthy desserts,” Berman added. “Our menu is perfectly balanced and our drinks are packed with cancer fighting antioxidants and exotic super foods for overall health and well being.”
Acai, Berman added, is a Brazilian super fruit.
“Basically it’s a really thick smoothie, reminiscent of frozen yogurt in texture and eaten with a spoon,” she said. “You can put all sorts of toppings on it like banana, berries, granola.”
In all, Berman is inviting her fellow Roslynians to the store to try one of its proprietary drinks, ones that are not only nutritious, but also ones that “dispel the myth that all health food tastes bad.”
As important, Berman wants to bring the latest in juice bars to Roslyn.
“This trend of juicining is everywhere in the city and everywhere on the West Coast,” she said. “There are no organic juice bars in Roslyn. The village is trendy in restaurants. We also want it to be trendy before dark.”
Nooks & Kindles is open seven days a week. On Monday through Friday, it is open from 7 am to 3 pm, on Saturday, from 8 am to 3 pm and on Sunday, from 9 am to 3 pm. For more information, visit www.nooksnkindles.com.
