Sewanhaka High School announced Shahzaib Saleem as valedictorian and Aleena Imran as salutatorian for the Class of 2015.
Saleem has a weighted 102.13 average. He is an AP Scholar with Distinction, a National AP Scholar, and will have completed 14 Advanced Placement courses by the end of the school year. Additionally, he was named a semi-finalist in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Saleem is a member of the varsity volleyball team, the Mock Trial team, Green Club, Student Council, Mathletes and Class Board. He also participates in Science Olympiad, and is a member of the National Honor Society and National Science Honor Society.
Last summer, he attended Harvard, earning eight college credits. Saleem hopes to attend Harvard in the fall.
Imran has earned a weighted average of 99.37 and is an AP Scholar with Distinction. Last May, she received the Bausch & Lomb Science Award from the University of Rochester. Imran is involved in the Robotics Club, and participated in the New York City Robotics Competition in 2013, where the high school won first place honors. Her activities include Student Council, Class Board, writing editor for the Totem yearbook, Chieftain staff writer, Science Olympiad, Women in Science and SADD.
Imran is also the president of the Foreign Language Honor Society and a member in both the National Science National Honor societies. Imran plans to study pre-med.
