Fast Start For Bulldogs

Homecoming_091914AThe Roslyn High School boys’ basketball team is off to one of their best starts in years, winning their first three games in high-scoring fashion. Fresh off of leading Roslyn to a Class A Nassau County volleyball title, Noah Nardone is back in top form on the hardwood as well.

In the opening game win over Great Neck North, Nardone scored 26 points with 11 rebounds to lead Roslyn to a 64-50 win. Nardone’s numbers included three three-point goals. Both Omar Burns and Thomas Davis had 10 points each. And both had two three-point goals of their own, proving that Roslyn is willing to come out swinging with a freewheeling offense.

That offense continued in the Dec. 6 game, where the Bulldogs polished off Plainedge by a 68-50 score. Roslyn broke open the contest with a 22-9 run in the third quarter. Keandre Augustine and Nardone paced the Bulldogs with, respectively, 15 and 12 points.

Augustine had another big game in the Dec. 9 win over Sewanhaka, a contest in which Roslyn prevailed by a 75-71 margin. The game marked the first time Roslyn had trailed in a contest after a quarter ended. Roslyn was down 16-14 at the end of the first quarter before rallying for 20 points in the second quarter and 22 points in the third frame to give Roslyn a lead strong enough to withstand a late Sewanhaka rally in the fourth quarter.

Augustine’s break out game featured 13 points from the free throw line. Nardone had 22 points, including two three-pointers.

On Dec. 12, Roslyn defeated Jericho, 76-73, to remain undefeated. Augustine had another huge game, scoring 35 points in the overtime win.
Meanwhile, the girls’ varsity squad bounced back from an opening night loss to Lynbrook, defeating Valley Stream North, 44-26 in a Dec. 5 contest.

Callie Migden, one of the stars from last year’s winning team, showed senior leadership in scoring 24 points, while pulling down 11 rebounds in leading Roslyn to the win.

Migden had another big game on Dec. 10, scoring 29 points in a tough 49-43 loss to Wheatley.
