Roslyn resident and award-winning author, Stephanie Sorkin, has released a new book, Chocolate Shoes with Licorice Laces.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Soles4Souls, an international anti-poverty organization that monetizes used shoes and clothing to create sustainable jobs and fund direct relief efforts, including distribution of new shoes and clothing. Founded in 2006, the organization has distributed more than 21 million shoes in 127 countries.

“Stephanie Sorkin is supporting Soles4Souls because it is the definition of a social enterprise where solid business practices are used to create positive change in people’s lives,” said a representative from Soles4Souls.

“As a child I can remember no greater feeling than putting on a new pair of back-to-school shoes,” added Sorkin. “For many children around the world, shoes are considered a luxury. With each book sold, more kids will have the opportunity to tie their laces and accomplish great things. It feels great to be connected to such a great organization.”

Soles4Souls will use the funds raised by Sorkin to help fund the free distribution of new shoes in the U.S. and overseas. Among its relief programs, the organization has distributed over 200,000 new pairs of shoes to help Philippine victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

“A children’s book is an amazing gift, as it can be used again and again,” said Sorkin. “When a portion of the proceeds are going to an incredible organization like Soles4Souls, it’s the gift that keeps on giving. As an author, it’s so rewarding to combine my love of writing and philanthropy into one project.”
